NCPD Team Visits INES-Ruhengeri to Promote Inclusion of Students with Disabilities

30 October 2025

From October 27 to 28, 2025, a delegation from the National Council of Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) visited INES-Ruhengeri to assess the university’s initiatives in fostering inclusion for students with disabilities.

Welcomed by Fr. Dr. BARIBESHYA Jean Bosco, Vice-Chancellor of INES-Ruhengeri, the team led by Mr. NDAYISABA Emmanuel, Executive Secretary of NCPD engaged with students and reviewed the institution’s progress in building an inclusive learning environment.

The mission formed part of the ANSWER Project, which is being implemented in three Rwandan universities: the University of Rwanda (UR), INES-Ruhengeri, and East African University Rwanda (EAUR).

During the visit, the NCPD delegation toured the Student Support Centre established through the project, assessed the accessibility of campus facilities, and interacted directly with students to understand their learning experiences.

In discussions with the ANSWER Project team, participants reflected on achievements to date and the challenges that remain in supporting students with disabilities. The dialogue highlighted the central role of the Student Support Centre in raising awareness, advocating for inclusion, and providing assistive devices where necessary.

Students expressed appreciation for the opportunity to share their experiences and acknowledged the Centre’s positive impact in helping them feel recognized and supported within the INES community.

The NCPD delegation commended INES-Ruhengeri for its strong commitment to advancing inclusive education through accessible infrastructure, empowered support services, and continuous awareness-raising among staff and students.
