INES-Ruhengeri Hosts Research Talk on Maternal Health Challenges

26 June 2025

On 25 June 2025, INES-Ruhengeri, a University of Applied Sciences, held a public talk focusing on maternal and child healthcare, shedding light on factors affecting antenatal care practices in Rwanda.

The session featured a research presentation by Mr. Jean Pierre NIYITEGEKA, titled “Factors Contributing to Non-Adherence to the Recommended Four Antenatal Care Visits among Women Attending Postnatal Services in Kinyinya Health Centre.” Drawing on field research and data, Mr. Niyitegeka outlined the major barriers preventing women from completing the World Health Organization’s recommended antenatal visits.

According to the findings, a combination of healthcare access issues, socio-economic factors, and cultural beliefs continues to hinder consistent antenatal attendance. The presentation sparked meaningful dialogue among participants on the need for community-based solutions and policy improvements.

As a University of Applied Sciences, INES-Ruhengeri continues to encourage applied research that directly informs public health strategies and contributes to real-world impact.

The event also reinforced the institution’s commitment to bridging academic inquiry with community needs, ensuring that research is both relevant and actionable.
