Welcome Note

Dear Students,

Welcome to INES-Ruhengeri, the Institute of Applied Sciences. We are pleased to have you with us on this important educational journey, which will be one of many positive events that will transform your lives. These values are highly appreciated in our institution.

For Health Sciences students, a blended teaching and learning system will be implemented. This is a highly effective method, providing you with various tools and skills to face future challenges, both during your career and after achieving your goals. I encourage you to create a strategy for progressing day by day until you eventually receive your certificate or degree and reach the graduation stage. This is a new beginning; let’s start with the best energy possible. We are delighted to have you on board, and I am confident that the year ahead will be filled with rewarding experiences.

WHY INES-RUHENGERI?

INES-Ruhengeri’s learning methodology balances theory and practice to provide students with practical competencies. These competencies enable them to offer sustainable solutions to various everyday challenges faced by society.

Campus Life Meaning

Campus life is a positive environment where students can have fun with friends, discuss relevant issues, and be heard without judgment. It is a place where students are encouraged to make good decisions and lead positively within their school.

Whether your campus is large or small, you are likely amazed by the range of institutionally supported student activities available for your enrichment and enjoyment. Perhaps your biggest challenge is managing your time between studies and extracurricular activities to maximize your reward.

Student Organizations

Student organizations cater to a variety of interests, including academic and professional development, sports and recreational clubs, community service, environmental concerns, religious groups, and charitable actions.

Student Services Offices

The campus has appointed the Dean of Students’ Welfare to manage student welfare on a daily basis. Currently, these services are provided by Mrs. Twishime Hyacinthe. You can contact her at +250 788224522 or via email at dsec@ines.ac.rw for any welfare-related matters. In cases of student deaths or disappearances, the INES management, through the office of the Dean of Students, ensures appropriate follow-up and facilitation.

Moreover, INES-Ruhengeri has a Students' Union Committee, headed by the Guild President, which addresses various student issues without involving the INES administration unless necessary. The office is open to all students for assistance.

Community Engagement at INES-Ruhengeri and Extracurricular Activities

Three Activities Executed on Saturday, 23rd March 2024

On 23rd March 2024, the INES Students’ Community organized three activities:

• INES-SU Dream Project
• Maintenance of Memorial Sites in Musanze District by Youth
• A return-friendly match between INES-Ruhengeri and UGHE in Butaro Sector, Burera District.

1) INES SU Dream Project

This charitable activity involved 57 students and local residents of Buhunge Village, who worked together to build a house for a vulnerable family. The beneficiary was TURIMUBENSHI Siriyaka, an elderly single mother with one child and a grandchild. In addition to the house, they were given food, a mattress, and other essential materials, which they received with great joy.

Taking Care of Memorial Sites

This activity was organized by Musanze District, specifically for the youth. The purpose of this act of love was to clean and maintain the memorial sites located in Musanze District. The event was successful due to the involvement of people from various backgrounds, including university students (such as those from INES-Ruhengeri and other institutions), leaders from the district, provincial, and national levels. The Guest of Honor was the Minister of Youth, Dr. UTUMATWISHIMA Jean Nepo.

Return Friendly Matches

This activity was organized by the INES Guild Council, involving a visit to the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) to strengthen friendship and partnership between the two universities. The matches included three games: basketball, football, and volleyball, with the following results:

• Basketball: INES (81 points) vs. UGHE (51 points) - win for INES
• Volleyball: INES (3 sets) vs. UGHE (0 sets) - win for INES
• Football: INES (1 goal) vs. UGHE (2 goals) - loss for INES

The visit involved 60 participants, including 52 INES-Ruhengeri students and 6 INES staff members.
