Mr. Muvunyi Germain is an individual with an MSc in Geoinformatics (Natural Resources Management program) and a BSc (Honors) in Soil Sciences and Environmental management. Presently, he serves as a permanent lecturer at INES – Ruhengeri and functions as a GIS & Remote Sensing Consultant for various institutions and companies. Boasting approximately a decade of professional experience, Mr. Germain specializes in GIS, remote sensing, cartography, GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System), and geodetic surveying. His expertise extends to environmental modeling, the implementation of land husbandry technologies, land-use mapping and planning, forestry governance and mapping, digital terrain modeling and analysis, local development planning, and SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructure). Recognized as one of Rwanda's leading remote sensing and GIS experts, Mr. Germain has a track record in remote sensing analysis, GIS-based mapping, environmental modeling, agriculture modeling, field survey, and capacity building. His extensive career includes collaborations with local and international organizations and donor agencies such as the European Union, USAID, ICRAF (World Agroforestry Center), Ministry of Infrastructure (MININFRA), World Bank, Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Resources, and Rwanda Water and Forestry Authority. Over the years, he has undertaken roles as a GIS researcher, GIS expert, remote sensing expert, forest planning expert, land husbandry expert, field survey coordinator, and lecturer of GIS, remote sensing, and other surveying courses. Mr. Muvunyi Germain possesses a profound understanding of MS Office, mapping, and statistical analysis software, encompassing GIS and remote sensing tools like ArcGIS 10.7, Python, QGIS, ERDAS Imagine 2020, GEE, E-Cognition, ENVI 5.3, Globalmapper, Geomatica, Supermap, PIX4D Cloud and Mapper, Agisoft, GeoDa, Image J, Grass, ILWIS, as well as proficiency in machine learning (DL, CNN, time series, interpretable models, etc.), AutoCAD Civil 3D, Agricultural Production Systems Simulator (APSIM), Microforest Solution software (for forest parameters analysis), PostgreSQL, MySQL, MS Excel, Statistical Analysis, R-Studio, JavaScript, Matlab, and more. His exceptional communication skills extend across English, French, and Kinyarwanda languages.
